Full Description
Identifies a 100 kDa glycoprotein found in high concentration in prostate tissue and its secretions. It is specific for benign and malignant prostatic epithelial cells, with negative staining in prostatic stroma, urethra, and basal cells. PSAP expression may be lost in inflamed or infarcted tissue and in areas of squamous metaplasia. Nearly all metastatic prostatic carcinomas retain PSAP expression, making it a reliable marker for confirming prostatic origin.
